MATERIALS NEEDED
  • Worsted Weight Yarn in 1 color - CA
  • Crochet Hook Size I (5.5mm)
  • Stitch markers
POSSIBLE OTHER SUPPLIES
  • Tapestry needle
  • scissors
STITCHES USED
  • sl st – slip stitch
  • ch – chain
  • sc – single crochet
  • hdc - half double crochet
  • dc – double crochet
SQUARE INFORMATION
Gauge: After round 3 piece is 3.5 inches wide.

DIRECTIONS

ROUND 1: ch4, join with a sl st to form a ring. ch4 counts as dc & ch1 sp, * dc,ch1* 7 more times. Join to 3rd ch of ch4 with a sl st. 8dc, 8 ch1 sps

ROUND 2: sl st to ch1 sp. ch3 counts as dc, 2dc in same sp. * (ch1, sk next st), 3dc in next ch1 sp* 7 times, then ( ) once more, join to top ch3 with a sl st. 24dc, 8 ch1sps

ROUND 3: sl st to next ch1 sp. ch3 counts as dc, 3dc in same sp. *(ch2, sk 3 sts), 4dc in next ch1 sp* 7 times, then ( ) once more, join to top of ch3 with a sl st. 32dc, 8 ch1 sps

ROUND 4: ch1, sc in same st. sc next 3 sts, 2hdc in next ch1 sp, dc in next 2 sts, ch2, dc in next 2 sts. 2hdc in next ch1 sp *sc in next 4 sts, 2hdc in next ch1 sp, dc in next 2 sts, ch2, dc in next 2 sts, 2hdc in next ch1 sp* repeat 3 more times. Join to first sc with a sl st 16sc, 16hdc, 16dc, 4 ch2 sps

ROUND 5: ch3 counts as dc, dc in next 7 sts.*(2dc, ch3, 2dc in next sp), dc in next 12 sts* repeat 3 more times, then ( ) once more, dc in last 4 sts. 64dc, 4 ch3 sps

ROUND 6: ch1, sc in same st, sc in next 9 sts. *2sc, ch2, 2sc in corner sp, sc in next 16 sts (across 1 side)* repeat 3 more times. sc in next 6 sts, join in first sc with a sl st. Finish Off. 80sc, 4 ch2 sps

***STOP HERE FOR 6 INCH SQUARE***

ROUND 7: Join same color with a sc in any corner space. *([ch2, skip 2 sts, sc in next st] 6 times) ch2, skip 2 sts, sc, ch2, sc in corner.* repeat 3 more times then repeat ( ) once. ch2 skip 2 sts, sc in next st, ch2, skip 2 st. join in first sc with a sl st. Mark corner ch 2 spaces with stitch markers 28sc, 28 ch2 sps

***STOP HERE FOR 7 INCH SQUARE***

ROUND 8: In any of the corner ch2 sp join with a sl st, ch2 counts as hdc, hdc, ch2, 2hdc in same sp as joining, * ([hdc in next st, 2 hdc in next ch sp] 7 times, hdc in next st). 2hdc, ch2, 2hdc in next corner space* 3 times then ( ) once more. Join with a sl st to top of beg ch2. Finish off. 108hdc, 4 ch2 sps
