PATTERN - Break Out 9 Inch Square
MATERIALS NEEDED
- Worsted Weight Yarn in 2 colors – CA, CB
- Crochet Hook Size H (5mm)
- At least 4 stitch markers

STITCHES USED
- sl st – slip stitch
- ch – chain
- sc – single crochet
- dc – double crochet
- tr – triple crochet
- BLO – back loop only
- FLO – front loop only
GAUGE After round 2 piece is 2.5 inches wide.

DIRECTIONS
Round 1: With CA ch5, sl st to 1st ch to make a loop. Ch3 will count as a dc now & throughout pattern unless otherwise noted, 2dc in loop, * ch2, 3dc in loop* 3 times, ch2, join with a sl st to top of beg ch3. 12dc, 4 ch2 sps
NOTE ABOUT ROUND 2-6: The 2nd & 4th corners you work in each round will be different – they will have different stitch counts on either side of the ch2. The ch1 will count as a st. This is to make sure the stitch counts remain the same on all 4 sides of the square.
Round 2: ch3, dc in next 2 sts, 2dc, ch2, 2dc in ch2 sp, dc in next 3 sts, 2dc, ch2, 3dc in next ch2 sp, ch1, sk 3sts, 3dc, ch2, 3dc in next ch2 sp, ch 1, sk3 sts, 3dc, ch2, 2dc in next ch2 sp, join with a sl st to top of beg ch3. 26dc, 2 ch1 sps, 4 ch2 sps
Round 3: ch3, dc in next 4 sts, 2dc, ch2, 2dc in next ch2 sp, dc in next 7 sts, 2dc, ch2, 3dc in next ch2 sp, [ch1, sk3, 3dc in next ch1 sp, ch1, sk 3 sts], 3dc, ch2, 3dc in next ch2 sp, repeat [ ] once, 3dc, ch2, 2dc in next ch2 sp, dc in next 2 sts, Join with a sl st to top of beg ch3. 40dc, 4 ch1 sps, 4 ch2 sps
Round 4: ch3, dc in next 6 sts, 2dc, ch2, 2dc in next ch2 sp, dc in next 11 sts, 2dc, ch2, 3dc in next ch2 sp, [ch1, sk3, 3dc in next ch1 sp] twice, ch1, 3dc, ch2, 3dc in next ch2 sp, repeat [ ] twice, 3dc, ch2, 2dc in next ch2 sp, dc in next 4 sts, Join with a sl st to top of beg ch3. 54dc, 6 ch1 sps, 4 ch2 sps
Round 5: ch3, dc in next 8 sts, 2dc, ch2, 2dc in next ch2 sp, dc in next 15 sts, 2dc, ch2, 3dc in next ch2 sp, [ch1, sk3, 3dc in next ch1 sp] three times, ch1, 3dc, ch2, 3dc in next ch2 sp, repeat [ ] three times, 3dc, ch2, 2dc in next ch2 sp, dc in next 6 sts, Join with a sl st to top of beg ch3. 68dc, 8 ch1 sps, 4 ch2 sps
Round 6: ch3, dc in next 10 sts, 2dc, ch2, 2dc in next ch2 sp, dc in next 19 sts, 2dc, ch2, 3dc in next ch2 sp, [ch1, sk3, 3dc in next ch1 sp] four times, ch1, 3dc, ch2, 3dc in next ch2 sp, repeat [ ] four times, 3dc, ch2, 2dc in next ch2 sp, dc in next 8 sts, Join with a sl st to top of beg ch3. Finish Off. 82dc, 10 ch1 sps, 4 ch2 sps
Round 7: With CB join with a sl st in any ch2 sp, ch1, * 3sc in ch2 sp, sc next 23 sts * 4 times. Ch1 sps count as a st and need to be worked as such. Join with a sl st to 1st sc. Finish Off. 104Sc

Round 8: Mark each middle sc of 3sc group with a st marker. You will not be working in these sts for this round. In 3rd sc of 3sc group – st after the st marker – work a standing tr in FLO, tr in FLO in the next 24 sts. Finish Off. Do this for each side. 100tr
Round 9: You will be working on the wrong side of the work – you have been working on the right side until now. In marked st & C2 join with a sl st , ch1, * 2sc in st, working through BLO of round 7 & both loops of round 8 sc in next 25 sts *, 4 times. Join with a sl st to 1st sc. 108Sc
Round 10: ch4, turn so the right side of the work is facing you once again, tr in same st as joining - 2nd sc of 2sc group of rnd 9 – * dc next 27 sts, 2tr next st, ch2, 2tr next st * 3 times, dc next 25 sts, 2tr next st, ch2. Join with a sl st to top of beg ch4. Finish Off. 100dc, 16tr, 4 ch2 sps
